No TV Day 1

Well today is the day. The signal has been severed. The FiOS has vamoosed. I am “TV” free. Now, mind me, I’ve got AppleTV to watch video podcasts for news and TedTalks, PlayStation 3 for NetFlix streaming, and gaming, watching discs and PSHome. So it’s not like I’m without the screen.

But I have noticed that I’m not passively flipping channels. I have to decide what to watch. And it’s showing me how much is out there, for free, or for just the cost of online usage.

My bill is now $60 for web. From $155 for FiOS TV, Phone and Web, I’m saving paying less for media.

And that’s a good thing, right Martha?

Okay, I miss it. Thank God for all the above.

No TV for 365 Days

Day 0

Today, I canceled my home TV service, along with my home phone. It will be gone tomorrow, I was told from the friendly Verizon sales and billing person. It’s InterWeb all the way now. I decided that the $155 for Verizon FiOS was just not worth it. TV, although is one of my all-time favorite activities, is really not an activity. It’s a time-suck. I mean, look at LOST for crying out loud!?!?!  It supports the use of my couch, and the shut down of my brain. I want to get back into reading (once I get that iPad in a couple weeks!) and from all of my other life’s activities, like cycling, PlayStation Home, Wii, Netflix… I really doubt I’ll be bored. There’s a lot to do!

Tonight’s activities:

  • Updated my iPhone 3GS to iOS4
  • Played around on PlayStation Home and finally found my Tron outfit!
  • Updated my Blog! WordPress 3 is a nice upgrade.
  • Started reading a book my sister-in-law gave me, The Alchemist.
